project runway: spoiler (watch out!)

pr

finally, this was the first good decision they've made all season. i'm so thrilled all four designers are in and i can't wait to see what the judges think of the final collections. it's great to know that the show has decided to give all four (very different) designers a platform from which to launch their careers. bravo, bravo. can't wait to see how it all ends. my money's on laura. i just really like the idea of her big career switch late in life. and next week? the reunion? can't wait. so what did you think? top 4 a good idea? does anyone think jeffrey's dress was provocative?

I thought Jeffery's dress looked like something Angela would have made. Uli's dress was beautiful and deserved to win. Michael's was too open in front and Laura's was too - although I still love her. I am glad they all were selected, tho. btw - watch the "late in life" comment about Laura. I'm the same age and recently made a career change as well. I am fighting the concept of "middle age" now it's "late in life"???... am off to have a scotch, with a geritol chaser.

My favorite designer is Michael Knight, and even though his dress tonight was a miss, I was really happy that they decided to choose all four. As for Jeffery's dress being provocative...I know what he's trying to accomplish and where he's trying to go, but it seems to end up to miss the mark a lot of times. Provocative? Not in my humble opinion.

LOL @ Linda's comment about Jeffery's dress looking like an Angela design... so true, and so ironically delicious!

I was also thrilled that all four designers will get to show at Bryant Park. I think it would have been nearly impossible to auf one of them based on tonight's challenge; they've all had moments of brilliance in the past.

I'm also looking forward to the reunion show, even though I never wanted to hear Vincent talk about what "turns him on" again. I can't wait to hear what Keith has to say for himself!

Funny that all season I've had those 4 and said that going from top 4 to top 3 would take some luck. At least we won't have a fake 4th designer show now. ;D

Michael's and Jeffrey's dresses both sucked, so either could have gone. Personally, I'm going for Michael (or Uli). Can't wait for the show, as that's where we can see how they put it all together. I just hope it's more like season 1's, where everyone had a theme going on.

I was also amused that the Hearst tower was right behind them in the Elle offices. But that's just me, I'm sure hehe.

I thought Jeffrey's dress was really cool, and I hate him! the judges were entirely too hard on all of them (except Uli). at this point in the game they must be feeling pretty haggard...it's not surprising they aren't doing their very best work, but I thought all the dresses were quite pretty.

What Linda said is just it: it DOES look like a dress Angela would have made! Made and then overexplained and blah blah blah. I don't think the dress was irreverant either, although most of his work generally is. And Laura is totally Laura, gorgeous but only slight alterations here and there of the same look. Michael Knight is a fantastic fantastic designer. As Heidi wore a bunch of maternity clothes from one of the season one designers, I'm interested to see if she commissions some stuff from Laura since she loves her stuff so much. How exciting! Very glad they picked all four! Makes it even more interesting and lots more creative opportunities.

I thought the same about Jeffrey's dress -- that it looked like something Angela would do. Nope, not provocative. Too fru fru.

Nice twist with all four -- especially since there was so much discussion on who was the decoy designer.

Jeffrey's dress looked like something Snow White would wear.

Laura's dress was pretty, but it was predictable.

I really liked Michael's dress. I thought that it was very sexy and provacative. Although the keyhole bared a lot of skin, I think he designed it for someone who wanted to go "over the top"--think: J. Lo's legendary green waist V dress.

Uli deserved to win. I love that she cut apart the first dress that really didn't work and in five hours reinvented a totally different, but still "Uli" piece. Very fun. Very unique.

I was thrilled that Bravo decided to give all four the nod to Fashion Week.

I heard a rumor that Laura accuses Jeffrey of breaking the rules by getting sewing help for his Fashion Week collection. Hope it's not true.

I was kind of peeved that I had to practically prop my eyelids up just to stay awake only to find out that NOBODY was eliminated :( On the other hand, I didn't want to see any of them go so....With regards to Jeffrey's dress, I actually really loved it and would say it's the only one of the four that I would wear. I think if it had been styled better in terms of hair/makeup/accessories it might have leaned more towards provocative, but still, I thought it was a really lovely dress.

Michael's was a total miss, but you know he's got tremendous talent so my heart just about stopped when he was in the bottom two and I thought there was a chance he could go. He's the one of the four that I can see putting together the most polished runway show.

Laura's dress was pretty but seriously, everything she makes looks the same. I feel like the only variation ever is the neckline/collar/sleeves, and maybe the length of the dress. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful stuff, but I was shocked to see her make a silvery w/feathers version of a dress we've seen her wear herself a million times on the show. I feel like that's the kind of dress you'd make as the signature piece in your whole collection, but it's not something that's terribly editorial or interesting, it's just the dress that marks the collection as Laura's (which is not what I thought the point of the assignment was).

Uli...I love Uli, she seems so funny and cool to hang out with, but I just didn't like her dress that much. I didn't like the pattern, I didn't like the neck on it. I think it was well made and the model looked gorgeous and I also think she's the designer who described herself in three words most accurately, but I was kind of eh on the dress. I'm glad she's sticking around, but I don't see her winning.

am trilled all four are moving forward. so much more interesting for us to see their full collections. i did peek at the getty photos and really want to see everything in motion and hear what they all have to say about their work. i have my personal fav, but feel that they are generally all at the same level - and to have auf'd someone would have been just a matter of taste. up until this point it's been so clear who should go (xcept alison). so glad they stuck with these four!

Last night, it was too hard to auf someone based on the designs. None were spectacular, and none were worthy of erasing any of the designers' prior work. I recall that last season, designers had a similar problem when asked to represent their collection in the last challenge.

I easily may have thought that allowing all 4 to show would be too easy, but in the end, it was the best outcome. I thought it was really sweet how happy the designers were, and none of them seemed disappointed or angry to have another competitor. If they found it unfair, I would too, but all seemed to feel it was fair and right, and their excitement was adorable!

i have to say, i think this year's designers are really much less talented than in previous years. Michael and Jeffrey have had their moments, I find Laura's and Uli's work completely dull (esp. that they can't vary far from one mode), and I really wish they had kept Keith and Alison around b/c I think they would have been contenders.

there are some designers who are very good at the technical (kayne, laura), but that doesn't add up to a creative aesthetic.

i think one of the best parts about this season is how much the four designers LOVE eachother, respect eachother (escept jeffrey's "stupid" comment last night)and work so well together. it just makes this so much more fun-- like summer camp or something.

as for the designs, i didn't LOVE uli's dress! i thought that nazeree made it look amazing-- and that her hair balanced out the shape and tie dye and wierd beaded piece hanging down the middle. i agree that it was a great improvement on her first incarnation, but come on... angela??

I am glad all 4 are staying. And, while I agree that they didn't do that well, except Uli, the judeges keep staying step out of your box and when they do, a la Jeffery, they get ripped for it. I hope Laura can design for woem with boobs. Her broad v necks only allow for boobless women. She has a classic style, but needs to work on that. I loved Uli's dress. I didn't think Jeffery's was that awful, a little Snow- White-ish.

More Cheating! It's true!

http://nymag.com/news/intelligencer/21688/

I can say I'm not surprised. Hello? Glue gunning a seam? That is not right... how can you send a collection down the runway with glue gunned seams? You can't. If I ever tried that I'd be shot. Sure - who hasn't sewn a model into a dress before - SEWN a model into a dress.

Uli's dress was great but she was a crass biotch for stealing Michael's model. Of *course* he had a bad dress/challenge. Woman STOLE his muse!

When the judges made their decisions last night, I thought they had lost it. So I checked d*s for some sanity and am really sad to see that many of you not only agree with the judges, but actually think Jeffrey's dress looked like an Angela Creation???!! I'm sorry, but Angela's "designs" are not fit for a dog's costume party! I'm not a dedicated fan of any particular designer, but I thought Jeffrey's dress was sweet and a bit indie, like a dress you'd find in a brooklyn boutique. Uli, who DOES seem very fun and nice, has talent, but I'm sorry, that dress she came up with was ugly. the beads and tie-dye was neither edge nor vintage. It was just a bad version of the dress she always does (which she should have stuck with!).

Jeffrey's dress was not only unflattering but not well made. This guy is alot more talented than that dress suggests. I'm sure he'll have a great show.

Sorry, Laura shouldn't even be there anymore. She has no chance as a professional designer. She got lucky because Jeffrey and Michael blew it last night, and they couldn't kick either of them off because they had won almost every other week. Her collection will be exactly what Nina said- 12 boring plunging neck lines with beading glued to the hem.

My pick is Michael, with maybe a surpise showing from Jeffrey.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Michael's gown was horrible. Not as horrific as Jeffrey's which would have looked great in the "Springtime for Hitler and Germany" sketch. I think Jeffrey should have been aufed. Uli should have won and did for stepping outside her box a wee bit. Laura, I love you, but loosen up.

hooray! they're all still in. I must admit that I was really excited about guest judge Teri Agins's dress.

Ok ... so I cheated.
I went to NYmag and see the entire collection of the four finalists.
I think Uli will take it. I was so shocked to see her collection. Not so much print.
Michael's runway show is pretty strong too.
Laura's .. hmm ... I don't know. They all look kind of boring to me. Too much lace, I think.
Jeffrey was under an investigation for outsourcing his sewing... What?? I don't think his collection is strong anyway. His milkmaid dress on the last episode is a copy of what Nina Garcia is showing on the first look. (Go ahead watch the re-run and observe the color choice).
For me it's definately between Michael and Uli.
I got a feeling that they might be asking the designer to do a one swimwear this year. I saw at least one in each collection.

after i saw the OFW photos on sites like style and getty, i finally saw them huge, linked off of BPR... and i was actually really amazed at each one of them - so i had suspicion than they'd all go to the final... and they actually have to do that anyway, whether it's "on tv" or not.

i was really surprised by how much i didn't like michael's final runway collection, and how much i loved all the other 3 designers'!!! it's probably a personal taste thing, but i'd been rooting for him all this time. :(

Although I am rooting for Michael to win, this last challenge made it apparent that he takes direction well. What he might need is a little more experience in the overall game of fashion before he makes his solo debut.

Laura & Uli - yawn. They are who they are and they LOVE what they do. Unfortunately Project Runway is looking for the next great American sportswear designer. What about conquering your segment. Laura can be the next cocktail dress designer; Uli could be the next "Lilly Pulitzer".

Now for Jeffrey - do I love him, no. He has a distinct POV also. I think he fell off with the cocktail challenge. He created something that looked like the Swiss Miss girl on hard times and gone bad. I loved it cause he really needed a swift kick of humble pie.

Yes, I've previewed the entire collection on WWD. It's a toss up. This season will be interesting; I can't even begin to guess who will be the winner. There were no standouts; I'm terrified to say that left to their own devices that not a single designer has outshined another. There's one thing about previewing the pictures, you loose the heightened sense of euphoria after the show. There's no music, no oooohhhh's, ahhhh's head turns to acknowledge approval of "I'd wear that". Until the next episode

I thought keeping all four designers was so lame... BUT I think it's even more lame to make one designer do the show but not put it on tv... so in the end, I guess it's a wash... basically like this whole season.

So just another piece of evidence that LAST season (season 2) was the best PR ever, we now have Diana Eng emerging as one of the most relevant designers out there. I actually met her at Yahoo Hack Day (she was super nice) and her team WON the top prize -- as voted on by all the other hackers. She and her partner created a handbag called Blogging in Motion -- it has a camera phone that snaps pictures at regular intervals and instantly uploads it to Flickr. Pretty cool. You can read about it here:
