I don't think they should charge people an entry fee since they're getting free design work out of it.

well, not that i agree with it. but $13 for an application fee isn't like, a bundle of money. that said, i don't think there should be a fee.

but i emailed tony for his comment on the fee, i'll post it when it's up.

i wanted to give tony from warrior a chance to respond to the fee issue:

"Hi Grace,

Thanks for posting the competition on your blog!

Originally the cover competition was set up by us as a means of getting in touch with ours readers and exposing the artwork of talented artists to a wide audience (which is one of our editorial mandates). We receive great editorial contributions and artwork from contributors around the world for each issue, much of which is on voluntary basis at this point. Due to minimal advertising, we produce Warrior on very low operating costs. However it does cost us money to print every page of the magazine and the printing of all content must be subsidized by ad and subscription revenue. Unfortunately we do not have the budget to process and post all the entries to our contest with our current business model, keeping in mind that the winner will be featured in our new issue along with a bio of the artist. Runners-up will also be featured on our website. I myself have competed in many design competitions which have had substantially higher entry fees. It was definitely not our intention to deter possible entrants with a hefty fee. We simply wanted to offer artists and designers an interesting way of getting there work out there.

Thanks again Grace...I hope I was not misleading in my original e-mail...I definitely do not want to portray the magazine contest as a cash grab....that’s really not what we’re about!

Best Regards,

Tony"
