room and board

main_image

in my dream world our living room would be big enough to fit a sectional sofa- the type that allows for both ac and myself to lie down comfortably without one of us being scrunched up against the arm of the couch. in that dream world i'd own either the jasper or klein sofa from room and board. the jasper is sleek, modern and has the cutest little wooden legs around, while the klein is just screaming, "come take a nap on me! i'm so comfortable!". sadly they're both way above my price range, but i've been drooling over them for some time, wishing that they detatched so i could get them through our ridiculously skinny hallway and into our living room (where they probably would block the closet door because the room's so narrow. but, a girl can dream, yeah?

probably more within my reach is the trusty grace chair (love the name) with its clean lines and comfy boucle upholstery. though at nearly $900, i'll be saving up for a long time...but, perhaps some of you could afford a new grace in your home?

[on another note, i did get to live ONE dream of mine last night- ac surprised me by taking me to wd-50 (we had the tasting menus-yum!). i'm one lucky girl.]

Your site makes me happy.

There's so much ugliness in the world, you helped me remember there are also beautiful things.

i looked at the urban outfitters site after your post on their new furniture. their chair called "Your Dads Chair" is similar to the grace chair on room&board. the dimensions are almost identical, the cute wooden legs look to be nearly the same, and both chairs feature 3 buttons on the back. the one at urban outfitters is only $500. the robin's egg blue color looks especially mid-century modern and wouldn't it look pretty with some dark furniture, maybe a chocolate shag rug? http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=10747&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=336&iSubCat=713&iProductID=10747

Wow, crazy! I just helped some friends pick out a couch last weekend and the two they were deciding between were the Jasper and the Klein! (They went with the Klein 'cause it was the most comfortable and it has those great-for-sitting-on low arms.)

Wow! I love the Grace chair. And anon is right, it does seem somewhat similar to the "your dad's chair" at urban.

I love the Grace chair. And I'm always a sucker for that coffee table... The problemwith coming to your site is that I always want at least half of what you post!

Hey d*s!
If you are on a budget, you should check out antique stores in your area. You may be able to find a similar look at a great price.
There's a great one in Columbus Ohio (where we are) that has a Mid-Century Modern basement. It's like disneyland for me! I bought a fantastic 6-drawer dresser that we removed the mirror and use as a sideboard type cabnet in our living room. It has legs like the jasper sofa and clean, modern lines. Guess how much?... $95!!! I get the same look that I've seen for $4000 AND I get the satisfaction of recycling. They also have (suprisingly) a lot of upholstered items that are in fabulous shape.
I know that since I'm in C-bus, that it doesn't really help you... but you might consider hunting around in your neck of the woods. Or, shot, make the trip to Ohio!... It'd probably be worth the gas!

I have a grey jasper as well, with the brick red slip cover. It is great because you can take the back cushions off and it is comfortable enough for two people to lay down.

i am also obsessed with the Grace chair, I was recently in the Chicago store and was drawn to it visually, sat down and found it so comfortable. It is lovely because it is so big and comfy but looks sweet and, well, graceful. It was only after enjoying it that i discovered that the chair was named Grace, and my name is also Grace. The fabric in grey is really really nice. so soft! I almost wish you hadn't reminded me of how much I want this chair!

Ohhh, the Grace chair is my dream, but I am still breaking in my new Andre sofa. (My bank account has yet to recover ; ) Has anyone seen that chair from Urban Outfitters? I saw it online in the beginning of the week but would like to know how it's constructed. It *looks* nice enough--hopefully it's as crappy as everything else they sell...?

And WD-50, you are a lucky girl! I hope you didn't leave too hungry and I hope you had dessert. Sam Mason is the best--not to mention sexiest--pastry chef this side of the planet ; )
